CLE - Legal Music Program at CMJCMJ's Continuing Legal Education program returns to explore the nitty-gritty legalese behind the music biz with lawyers, industry power players, artists, and fans alike.
Held at the Kimmel Center, NYU's historic hub of student life located in the heart of Washington Square, Marathon's daytime programming fuels the flames with over 75 panels, music business legal seminars, mentoring sessions, CMJ's annual College Day, as well as opportunities to meet and greet industry power-players, famed artists, fans, and every other bleeder and feeder of all things music.
PANELS
Past panel topics have ranged from touring green to breaking out within the world of Web 2.0 to DIY promoting on shoestring budgets to the art of the remix to the industry's metalhead minority to the fine line between high concept and silly gimmick for on-stage antics to China's music business to the intersections of graffiti and hip hop, sex and hip hop, and misogyny and hip hop to defining that elusive yet ubiquitous term "indie rock."
Panelists and keynote speakers from previous Marathons include David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Brian Wilson, Al Franken, KRS-One, Yoko Ono, Johnny Rotten, Tori Amos, Moby, Chuck D, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Janeane Garafalo, Johnny Marr, Fred Durst, Mark Cuban, Robert Christgau, Nic Harcourt, John Cale, Chubby Checker, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Run.
Reflecting CMJ at its essence, College Day brings together music biz big wigs and college and non-commercial radio heads for some thought-provoking panels, rollicking parties and performances, as well as free food to boot.
